These Maíz & Co. Tortillas are made from Criollo corn. Origin and history: Criollo corn comes from the original corn populations in Latin America and has a long history dating back to the indigenous cultures of the region. It has been traditionally cultivated for generations, has a high biodiversity (many varieties and colors), and Criollo is praised for its excellent flavor and pleasant texture, as well for a tender consistency, that lends itself well to the preparation of traditional corn products such as tortillas, tamales, and masa.

The tortillas are made by Mexicans in Germany (all tortilla products in our store are made in Europe, but have Mexican roots/sources). Maíz & Co. also sets the highest transparency and produces, as you call it, "live" in front of the eyes of interested visitors in a visible production facility - their showroom. There, the process of the thousand-year-old manufacturing tradition is openly made a principle for customers.

Of course, we tried them ourselves and the tortillas stand out for being among the softest we've ever tasted, they release from each other very well and quickly and remain flexible, so they don't break when bent.

These tortillas can be stored dry and do not require refrigeration. They can also be frozen for an extended shelf life.

Recipe

1. Put the tortillas in a hot pan, heat them for 5-10 seconds per tortilla per side and turn them over 2-4 times.

2. They are ready for you to eat when they become soft and flexible or puff up slightly.

3. Place the tortillas in a folded clean towel/cloth/tortillero or closed container to keep them warm.

4. During your meal, take out the tortillas one by one and top them with your meat/meat substitute, veggies and pour salsa/sauce or other ingredients. Enjoy your meal!

Tips

Before eating, heat for about 30-40 seconds, always about 10-15 seconds per side, well suited in a shallow pan or comal (also available here in the store) and top tortillas as desired.

To avoid constant running back and forth between the pan and the dining table, tortilla warming bags (tortilleros, also found here in the store) are suitable.

Once opened, consume within 3 days. if necessary, wrap in a kitchen towel and store in the refrigerator so they do not dry out.
